Permanent Technical Search Engine Specialist

Mendeley ( http://www.mendeley.com ) is a start-up developing social software and Web 2.0 tools to transform the way science is done. Our vision is to create a “Last.fm for Research”. We’re funded by and working with some of the people who built Skype and Last.fm, as well as prominent academics from world-class universities. We have won the Plugg “European Start-Up of the Year” award, the TechCrunch Europas Award 2009 for “Best Social Innovation That Benefits Society” and were finalists at “The Next Web Start-Up of the Year”.

Mendeley consists of two parts: Mendeley Desktop, free cross-platform software (Win, Mac, Linux) for managing and sharing research papers, and Mendeley Web, a website for managing research papers online, discovering research trends and connecting to like-minded academics. If you want to be part of it, here’s your chance: We’re currently looking for a full-time Technical Search Engine (SEO) Specialist to join our team!

What you’ll be doing:
• Link building: Experienced in doing manual research but also by using specialized software.
• Press Releases and SEO optimized copy-writing: Understanding of how to write and submit optimized press releases for the web.

• Article marketing: Very good knowledge of article syndication best practices, in order to obtain inbound links and increase our incoming traffic.
• Directory Submissions: Understanding of major, general, specialized directories and how to submit a site for listing.
• Social networking: Social networking with Facebook, Bebo, other more specialized social networking web sites, related to our industry.
• Video promotion: Very good understanding of how to create, optimize and promote videos on the web.
• Micro blogging: Use of twitter in order to monitor and increase customer engagement.
• Photo sharing: Participation in photosharing web sites as a way to improve page rank but also for increasing brand awareness.
• Document Sharing: Participation in document sharing web site as a way to raise brand awareness and also increase incoming traffic to our web site.
• Blog Design & promotion: Very good understanding of practices used to promote a business blog.


What you should ideally bring:
• An academic background and/or related work experience in academia
• Native English speaker or equivalent
