Permanent Senior Pharmacy Technician - Band 5

at NHS Foundation Trust in North London

Applicants must have a qualification at NVQ Level 3 / BTEC in Pharmaceutical Sciences and have or be willing to obtain an Accredited checking Technician qualification on appointment. The applicant must be registered as a qualified technician with the Royal Pharmaceutical Society of Great Britain and have two years post qualification experience in a hospital environment with skills in delivering technician led pharmacy services, training and development to staff.

Applicants should be enthusiastic, motivated and have demonstrated the ability to manage change, improve quality and develop and deliver a pharmacy service as part of a wider healthcare team. Good communication, influencing and writing skills are essential.

The post holder will be required to:

- Work as part of the wider prison healthcare team to deliver a comprehensive medicines management service to young people and young adults at HMYOI Feltham, which complies with medicines, controlled drugs and HMP legislation.

- Develop the role of pharmacy technician at HMYOI Feltham.

- Input into the development of policy, procedures for use of pharmaceuticals at HMYOI Feltham and CNWL Foundation Trust.

- Identify opportunities to improve access to pharmacy services by patients and healthcare staff at HMYOI Feltham and in CNWL Foundation Trust.

- Provide training to staff, patients and carers at HMYIO Feltham and CNWL Foundation Trust.


UNIT INFORMATION;

The Addiction and Offender Care Directorate is one of the largest substance misuse services in the UK, providing services to adults at an in-patient detox unit in Ealing and outpatient treatment centres in Brent, Ealing, Hillingdon, Hounslow, Hammersmith & Fulham, Kensington & Chelsea and Westminster. We also provide services to HMPS Wormwood Scrubs and HMPS Royal Holloway.

The Trust has a strong commitment to advancing pharmacy practice and embedding effective medicines management systems into the care of our service users. The Trust is continuing to expand and develop its pharmacy and medicines management services with the addition of a Trust wide medicines information service and medicines helpline for service users and carers. We are committed to developing our staff through structured continuing education, CPD programmes and higher qualifications in clinical pharmacy.


You will work as part of a multidisciplinary team that is closely integrated with the wider prison team at HMYOI Feltham to deliver healthcare services to the primary care, mental health, sexual health and substance misuse units.

The post offers an excellent opportunity for an enthusiastic technician to develop the pharmacy technical service and promote the role of pharmacy technician at HMYOI Feltham. The post holder will be required to ensure the timely the supply and safe storage of medicines to clinical areas as well to support the development and implementation of medicines related polices and procedures and the supply of medicines to patients. You will also develop skills in patient education and providing medicines information to young people and young adults as well as in delivering training to health care staff on aspects of medicines management.

We have an ambitious agenda at HMYOI Feltham. You will be able to build and develop your skills as a technician in primary car, mental health and substance misuse treatments in a prison environment.
