Full-Time Technical Accounting Lead

Job Description

Responsibilities
– Advise the business on new proposals/projects/initiatives from the start and help meet the relevant commercial objectives
– lead the review and functional sign off for all financial reporting aspects of new business proposals affecting the Trading entities. These proposals often have implications in most complex areas e.g. derivatives/financial instruments, leases and special purpose entities.
– Lead the implementation of new accounting standards/interpretations within Shell Trading globally and coordination of the impacts across Trading entities (this includes communication and discussion of updates to other stakeholders).
– Interact and explain accounting concepts to a range of stakeholders, including non finance or non technical personnel.
– Organise and create trainings, focused on Trading accounting issues e.g. disclosures, reporting and derivative identification and recognition guidance. The target audiences include the Financial Accounting Group, business finance and commercial departments.
– Leading Global accounting projects as and when required.
– Control owner, responsible for ensuring the ongoing effectiveness of Shell Trading’s internal control over financial reporting in accordance with the requirements of SOX 404 for specific controls.

Requirements

  • Degree educated accountant with a professional qualification ACA or ACCA.
  • A minimum of four to six years post qualification experience required, gained at Big 4 firms or industry in similar technical accounting roles
  • Must be able to demonstrate some advisory experience – dealing with technical accounting issues (particularly IAS 39 and leasing related)
  • Candidates with commodity trading or technical accounting advisory experience preferred.
  • Must be able to work in a fast paced environment under pressure and should be able to meet agreed tasks and objectives, whilst maintaining accuracy.
  • Able to think logically and relate theoretical accounting literature to actual commercial Trading activities to reach appropriate conclusions
  • Excellent communication and influencing skills required as the role involves extensive liaison with commercial staff and Senior Management
  • Good time management skills required
